Friday Free Patterns

Here is today's pattern

It is Sunflower embroidered on a pure cotton handkerchief.

The base is pure cotton fabric. I have used Pearl cotton threads- single strand through out.

I first embroidered the edge of the circle using dark brown thread and outline/stem stitch. Then I filled up the inside with Chinese knots using the same thread.

Then, I used yellow thread to stitch the petals, using lazy daisy stitches, starting from one end and stitching around the circle and ending near the place I started. Note that the stitch anchoring the chain is a bit longer and I left a little space between the stitches.

Then using a shade lighter thread, circled each of the chain stitch, passing through the anchoring stitch of the chain.

I stitched the stems using stem stitch and the leaves using satin stitch.

Stitches used: Stem, Lazy Daisy, Satin, Chinese Knots.

This pattern can be used on hand kerchiefs, blouses, children's frocks, kurtis or tunics, saris, hand and bath towels, table linen, kitchen linen and bed linen.

This is the pattern. You have to size it according to your requirement while printing this.

Hope you like this pattern.

Friday Free Patterns

Friends I am reviving this post. I have lots of patterns to share with you. The only problem is I have pencil sketches, which need to be inked with black ink, so that you may get a crisp picture when you take a print out.

I have been promising since long to post these. But I wanted to try them out and give you my version of stitched design too. Any ways from this week I will again post patterns every week.

This weeks pattern is here:

This is a small design embroidered on a hanky. The base fabric is white coloured pure cotton fabric.

I marked the design with a pencil directly on to the cloth.
After finishing my embroidery, I drew the pattern on paper for you.

Stitches used were: Bullion, Stem, Lazy Daisy (Single Chain Stitch), Chinese Knot.

I have used mostly 2 or 3 strands of 6 stranded cotton floss. For the flower in the center done with Chinese knots, I have used all six strands.

This pattern can be used on Hand kerchiefs, blouses, children's frocks, kurtis, saris, hand and bath towels, table linen, kitchen linen and bed linen.

Hope you like it.

Freebies at Flintobox

We all agree that fast changing technology touches every aspect of our lives. We have no doubt benefited from it. It has made our lives easy and changing it everyday. But there are also some negative effects. Specially when it is our children and their growth, we are worried about them .

Today our children are so addicted to TV and hooked on to smartphones, most of us parents are complaining that our children have become couch potatoes without any physical or creative activity. Naturally their growth is not as much or how we want it to be.

90% of brain development happens by the age of six. Early experiences and positive interactions during the age of 2-8 years determines the overall development of children for years to come. Research shows that children need to be actively engaged in 12 different areas for a holistic development. However, in these busy days with nuclear families, parents don’t have the time to ensure that their child is engaged effectively. And this constraint makes children resort to the easy way of watching TV.

Friends, I came across Flintobox which helps parents in this regard. I feel that their concept is good. So I thought I would share it with you.

Flintobox provides age-appropriate activity boxes for children between the age group of 2-8 years. They are delivered to your doorstep every month! Each box is loaded with play-based activities for kids that promote early child development in a fun and explorative way. With a new theme every month, this research-based box is crafted by montessori experts and child psychologists, and caters to the 12 developmental areas of a child.

These are hands-on activities that will take the child away from the TV and hook him/her onto meaningful and engaging activities.

Each box contains different activities that covers 12 development areas including fine motor, cognitive and gross motor, creativity, exploration, language, and social skills through fun activities

Children are exposed to different concepts, ideas and inspirations which make them creative and inquisitive and they tend to use them in a variety of different aspects in their day to day lives. A constant encouragement from parents on such hands-on play will create a natural tendency in kids to move away from TV.

Their  products are targeted for children between 2-8 years of age. Each box will contain the following four segments:

  • CREATE – An art/craft based activity to create something that will imbibe a sense of achievement in the child
  • PLAY – A fun game setup which could be a board game, a card game or an outdoor game or a fun family game which will target holistic development
  • EXPLORE – An experimental or explorative setup to feed the child’s curiosity on the theme of the month
  • STORY-- A storybook on Flinto (the octopus) which is generally an adventure or a moral story that parents can read with and to their child
Please do visit their site. Read their terms and conditions and offers and decide for yourself. Here are some links to Freebies from their site:

I think it will also make a great gift for any child.

NOTE: I am not endorsing the organisation or its product in any way. I don't get paid for this. I just thought this is a good concept and wanted to share with you all. So visit the site read the terms and conditions and decide for yourself.

Design A Day-Day 15

Here I am with  pattern for Day 15. Once more it is a small pattern with simple stitches.

I stated with this pattern. I drew it directly on to the cloth.
I used 6 strand cotton floss and all of the 6 strands-2 shades of blue, light green and pink. Stitches used were, Detached Chain, Back Stitch and Chinese Knots. I added the Chinese Knot buds later which was not in the pattern I originally started with to fill in the spaces between the flowers.

After finishing the embroidery I realised that thought it was looking great, I should have used 2 strands or even pearl cotton as the ground cloth was fine cotton. It would look more delicate. Next tine I will do that.
Here is the pattern. I have altered it a bit and made it more symmetrical. It would look great on Kitchen/bed linen, blouses, kurtas, napkins, hand towels, children wear etc. You can use different colours or stitches and see how it looks.

I am very happy that I kept my promise and posted for a fortnight without a break. Hope you like my patterns. I will take a break for this week end and see whether I can come up with more patterns.

These designs were created by me. You can use them for your personal use only. If you use them, please send me the pictures of your work, which I will post on my blog or if you post them on your blog or site please link to the original pattern here on my blog and let me know about it. I would appreciate that very much. If you want to share them please attribute the work to me, with link back to this blog. Do not re-publish. Please Don't Post the patterns on your site or blog. I hope you will respect my request.

Keep an eye on my blog and watch out for more patterns and my work as I am determined to finish all my WIPs and also start new projects....

Design A Day-Day 13

Day 13 and I am here with one more pattern for you.
As usual I started with the pattern drawn directly on the cloth.
These were the 6 strand cotton floss I used.
The center of the flower is Chain stitch-3 strand. All the rest is 6 strand. I have used Chinese Knot stitch for the flower, Stem stitch for the stems and Detached Chain for the leaves.

Actually I wanted to add just one row of knots but some how I was not satisfied with the result. So I added one more round to make it look like a proper flower. Later on I also added the four leaves at the bottom which was not there in my pattern I started with.

Here is a closer look at the flower.
 Here is one pattern.
Here is the final one. This pattern will be good for corners and if repeated will look good as a border too.

Hope you have liked my pasterns so far. I am enjoying this project very much.

Please drop in your comments and suggestions if any. I would appreciate that very much.

Design A Day-Day 8

Day 8: So I am here with another pattern

I started with this pattern
I used Pearl cotton threads but substituted light red for blue while actually embroidering.
This is how it turned out. I used blanket wheel or buttonhole wheel, stem and detached chain stitches.
My mom remarked that for a hand kerchief, this was a big pattern and I should have used a smaller one. I agree with her, I added too many leaves. But I liked the result.

I have altered the pattern while recording it in my sketch book and tried to make it into a square pattern.

I think this will go well with, kitchen linen, table mats, pillows, bed linen etc and also on blouses and children's wear. If  you don't want this big a pattern you can use only the central part and do away with so many twigs and leaves.

Hope you like it. Watch out for more....
